It truly was the scariest moment of our lives. I think the final magnitude was 7.2, but the epicentre was just a couple of kilometres away; it was really close!

Everyone’s ears pricked up when we felt the earth churn in the distance, then as it approached the audible roar took over and then to lose complete control of your body, getting flung around so much you can’t even get through your son’s bedroom door, let alone the front door of the house.

There was a tonne of damage in the village. There was absolutely no damage to our steel framed cabin..

I can’t tell you how comfortable the whole family now feels in our house.
